We Develop Groups into Resilient Teams

What is a Resilient Team?

Resilient teams achieve ‘Confident Uncertainty’: They build a foundation of trust, they know their strengths and weaknesses in good and bad times and how to support and challenge each other to make decisions that will achieve their shared goal.  They have confidence they will find a way through the ‘fog’ of uncertainty

Look at the difference we’ve made to other teams:

The Challenge

"There are different agendas playing out in our team, we need to decide where we're going"

What we worked on

  • Defining a shared goal that all contributed and bought in to
  • Stopping those things that got in the way of the shared goal
  • Prioritising those activities that took the team towards their goal

The Result

"This work has turned groups of individuals into one team.  We now quickly prioritise objectives and align behind them. Key has been the recognition that some activities have to be stopped in order for us to achieve our goal"

The Challenge

"I'm not sure how safe it is to say what I think or feel"

What we worked on

  • Establishing ground rules that support openness and honesty
  • Creating opportunities for individuals to speak about what's really going on for them
  • Identifying and owning behaviour that gets in the way of openness and honesty

The Result

"This is the area where I have seen most benefit. We have taken big strides in people opening up to their beliefs and feelings, so we know each other at more than just a surface level now.  As a result, the team is more powerful and a far happier place to be"

The Challenge

"We're not as challenging as we could be and the boss is the only one who holds people to account"

What we worked on

  • Defining roles, responsibilities and activity in the context of the team goal
  • Building the confidence of individuals to speak up for the good of the team
  • Helping the 'boss' to share control

The Result

"We now have clearly allocated tasks, roles and responsibilities which gives us a sense of purpose and increased accountability.  I now align more readily and support and challenge my colleagues to do the same.  I am more willing to hold my hand up and say I have failed and look at what needs to be changed to move forward rather that looking back"

The Challenge

"I'm not sure what makes people tick and know my peers don't understand who I am"

What we worked on

  • Using assessments and subsequent discussion to highlight and appreciate diversity
  • Understanding how differences were complimentary and brought opportunity
  • Acknowledging strengths and weaknesses then asking for and giving support

The Result

"We are starting to understand 'How' our team-mates think and 'Why' they do things the way they do. When we get this right, we will start to do great things, we will let the Thinkers think and the Doers do"

The Challenge

“Certain Issues are never called out.  This effectively leaves ‘grit in the in the engine’ resulting in problems down the road”

What we worked on

  • Creating a shared goal that focuses debate
  • Understanding each others' ideas and concerns
  • Looking for opportunities for collaboration

The Result

"Where there is an issue or concern it is called out more quickly now, enabling discussion, understanding and jointly agreed resolution"
